Not forever, but she leaves us in the dark long enough to go a little bit haywire with anticipation. Tina is a master a pulling the wool over your eyes in The Honeymoon and this is probably the most unpredictable thriller I have ever read. Find all my book reviews here: www. Aug 15, Ieva Andriuskeviciene rated it did not like it. Extremely stupid and unreasonable girl Jemma gets married and on their honeymoon in Maldives groom disappears.
Sounds intriguing? Believe me, not. Tina Seskins tried to make complex characters but just made them completely unreasonable and unrealistic. Why Jemma behaves so stupid is a mystery. Just avoid. Jun 04, Kate rated it liked it Shelves: favourites-read-in , out-inand-read.

So as you can imagine I was flipping pages rapidly to solve the mystery of the missing husband.
A honeymoon in the Maldives makes me dream of romantic walks on white sands, swimming lazily in glittering warm waters, and indulging in all the 5 star luxury. Instead Jemma experiences the horrific, and abrupt disappearance of her new husband. The story is told in two timelines; the honeymoon timeline, and flashbacks to when they met and their journey up to their marriage. I loved the full cast of characters. There were lots of potential suspects, and a full pond of red herrings swimming in circles to confuse and disorient you.
With messy relationships to be untangled, tense family dynamics to be grasped, and the two timelines to be connected, this turned into a page-turner of a read. I love the observations that the author makes about life in general, and she can straddle humour with suspense easily. My only complaint is that I guessed the ending. Well not conclusively, but it was definitely on my suspicion list. Overall another exciting, and engaging read from Tina Seskis. Who should read The Honeymoon by Tina Seskis?
I recommend this to you if you like exotic locations, messy relationships, and a perplexing story. Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Books for giving me a copy of this book for review consideration. This book just sucked me in, churned me around for over pages, and then spat me out with an ending that left my mouth hanging open in shock and disbelief! Tina Seskis I bow down to your extraordinary writing skills that made this unbelievable story burst to life and completely take me by surprise.
Jemma has finally achieved her goal of marriage and is now on her honeymoon with the man that she agreed to spend the rest of her life with. On this beautiful paradise island that is the perfect place for love, Jemma should feel happiness and fulfilment but that is not the case. Her husband has vanished, as if into thin air, and as time ticks by, the outcome does not look favourable. But what has happened to him? Who is hiding something? And will she ever see him again? Jemma, and some of the other characters, are not always likeable and they all seem to have a darker side to their personality, but that only adds to the tension and heavy atmosphere that is hovering in the air as you turn every page.
I actually felt my stomach wobble as I read this book. You gain an insight as to the kind of woman she maybe that will make you wonder if she had a hand in it. It's set mainly in Mauritius and the ending is totally unexpected. I loved this book. Sep 01, Kim Ebner rated it really liked it. Please check out my book blog at: www.
It was an easy read, with short, punchy chapters, that kept the plot moving along. And it had a twist within the first third of the book that I didn't see coming at all. I loved that because normally in psychological thrillers there's one big twist at the end, but more often than not, there's nothing during the story. I also thought that the characters were all very distinct, and the way that the author Please check out my book blog at: www. I also thought that the characters were all very distinct, and the way that the author described them, allowed me to form a clear picture of each of them in my head.
I must say that I wasn't very keen on the main character, Jemma. And she only got worse throughout the story. By the end, I was feeling incredibly sorry for her husband. She was grating on my nerves so badly that I wanted to drown her in the lovely, clear blue sea of their island get away! So well done to the author for stirring such emotions in me. Now for the ending, mmm, I'm not sure quite how I felt about it. Let's just say that I didn't love it. I've reworded this final paragraph of mine a few times, and each time I write it, I find that I might actually be giving something away.
With that in mind, I'll keep my feelings short and sweet - the ending was dark, totally unexpected, perhaps a little bit far fetched, and a little bit of a let down for me. The ending just seemed to pop out of nowhere and probably caused me to award 4 stars to this read, rather than 5. This is a great book that I would describe as an easy, gripping and entertaining holiday type read.
It's the type of book that you can slip into your handbag, stash in your beach bag or even have lying on the passenger seat of your car, to be grabbed and read at any spare moment. I thoroughly enjoyed it, even if I did find the ending slightly weak. And in case this makes you feel disappointed, or perhaps you now think that you won't read it after all, let me leave you with this thought: the ending made me feel physically sick! So go on, read it, and let me know your thoughts It was my pleasure to read and review this title. May 15, Amy rated it it was amazing Shelves: ebook.

This is broken into four parts and is told from Now and beginning seven and a half years previously when Jemma and her husband meet. Now is when he first goes missing and is so atmospheric, the suffocation of the humid island is portrayed perfectly and is shown not as paradise, but a hell on earth for Jemma. The flashbacks provide insight into the state of the couples relationship and of course nothing is as perfect as it first seems.
This had everything I look for in a good psychological thriller, a great setting, untrustworthy characters, paranoia, fast pacing, and constant guesswork on my end. There was a twist very early on that surprised me, and then several more along the way. Jun 12, Bookread2day rated it really liked it. This is definitely a book for when you need the lightest of frothy-light reading beach, flight, bath with one of the most utterly demented endings I've ever read which had me giggling out loud at the sheer ridiculousness of it! Why is Jemma so keen not to consummate their marriage so they can have it annulled when they've been living together for years and can just get a divorce? An idyllic setting, a romantic honeymoon, a bride- but where has the groom gone? I really deeply, disliked Jemma! Self-absorbed, bad tempered and manipulative, Jemma pressurised Jamie into proposing but did she still hanker after his brother?
She is the narrator of most of the story- which should make her more sympathetic but doesn't. The payoff for the reader's attention is good, but some may feel a little cheated that it ends quite suddenly after the revelation. Though I'll be surprised if anyone guesses it! Jemma isn't the most likeable of protagonists, but her situation is rather sympathetic and she is a victim as much as her husband possibly is. Not one to read on your own beach honeymoon, but a great choice for lying in the sun with and puzzling over. With thanks to Netgalley for the advance e-copy. I am so conflicted about this book. It would be a lie if I said it was badly written.
It was not, if anything far from it. All of these things were really good. You can see Tina Seskis talent and skill throughout the book, but then why give it only a three star rating you might ask? Jemma, the main char I am so conflicted about this book. Jemma, the main character, is not good with emotions. The thing is you can expect little children not to have a handle on their feelings as it takes practice, but Jemma is At some point she'd have to show some retraint.
Be a bit steadfast, but no Jemma and her feeling are all over the place. There was the thing with the brothers I wouldn't say more as not spoil it but once she makes a decision it should have been final, but no. Jemma second guesses herself, she second guesses herself right into a world of grief. I will say this for the author though, it takes real talent to be able to write a character in the first person who discovers her husband is missing and then soon after manages to make you think she did it.
Even after you've followed that characters thoughts and she herself thinks she doesn't know where he is Truly thrilling and utterly engaging, The Honeymoon is one of those brilliant beach reads that I'm sure will fly off the shelves. Having recently returned from a honeymoon myself, I found the contents of this book to be terrifying! Chloe, a physiotherapist meets Dan and falls head-over-heels with him, After a whirlwind romance, Dan pops the question and Chloe says yes.
On their honeymoon to idyllic Menorca, Chloe starting noticing Dan behaving weirdly. He makes important life decisions without cons Marry in haste, repent in leisure. He makes important life decisions without consulting with her. He keeps telling her that he's gotta keep her 'safe'. He has violent nightmares. He doesn't let her out of her sight.
All this - Chloe had no idea of before the wedding. All Dan tells her, without so much as an explanation is that she's not to leave Menorca and be away from his sight. Does she really know the man she married? Is it an elaborate ruse to keep her under his thumb and away from her friends and family? Or is the threat to their lives real? I liked both the characters and the plot of this book. However, the entire 'reason' behind Dan's crazy behavior was something difficult to understand. Although I got frustrated with Chloe and her naiveness I thought her behavior was realistic.
On the other hand, I hoped to see what made Dan tick, what his childhood was like, why did he fall in love with Chloe, etc. He's a mystery character, right from the start to the finish with the curtain raised just a little bit for a tiny peek. All said and done, I loved the ending! Also, what a wonderful cover! May 20, Constantine rated it really liked it Shelves: z , giveaway-read , xhalf-star , netgalley.

Kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. They both keep secrets from each other, but Chloe gradually feels that her husband is not the man she thought he was! Pros: - Great writing style. This is the first book I read for Rona Hals Rating: 4. I need to grab her other books now. Every time I felt that the story was going to go to a cliche direction the author proved me wrong by going a different way which I appreciate very much. In the beginning, I thought that the story was going to be like B. Paris' Behind Closed Doors but it didn't.
This is offering lots of new things. Perfect design for the story. Cons: - Some actions of the characters cannot be justified, but that does not mean real people won't do them. While reading you may ask why the main characters did something instead of doing something else. The Honeymoon Game
I wanted to read The Honeymoon because of that beautiful cover. After reading it, the cover is still my favorite part. I thought the concept for the book was really interesting. It sounded like great, soapy drama and I was crossing my fingers for some crazy twists. Unfortunately, it left my pretty disappointed. Just around and around with absolutely zero happening to move the plot forward. I also kept waiting for Chloe to be revealed as a real psycho. From the very beginning she comes across as a pretty unstable person and I thought it was all building up for her to do something crazy, but it never really went where I wanted it to.
It had a gorgeous cover and a promising concept, but the story was pretty underwhelming. However, I have seen some good reviews on it, so it might still be worth the read for some. Overall Rating out of 5 : 2 Stars May 21, Samantha rated it liked it Shelves: aty It had a lot of promise because it is one of those situations that with a little more subtlety could have played out really well.
I feel like I am being hard on this book because it was so close to being really good but none of the characters acted in a way that seemed close to realistic. On the positive side it had some good tension, a decent plot and it was a quick read. I would like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me with a copy of this book for my honest review. Unbelievable to a degree that defies even my superpowers of suspension of disbelief when reading psychological fiction. Alas, I was disappointed with the explanations and the conclusion.
